A prostate exam, also known as a digital rectal exam (DRE), is a medical procedure that allows a healthcare provider to assess the size, texture, and condition of a man's prostate gland. The prostate is a walnut-sized gland located just below the bladder and in front of the rectum. The exam is a part of routine screenings for prostate health and is commonly used to check for signs of prostate conditions, including prostate cancer.
